Easter -UPDATED

This Easter feels different....Some of you are away from home this year and others are spending Easter with new friends. For me, I'm spending my first Easter without my daughter....this whole marriage thing sure causes some shifts to what's been "tradition"!

She told me that it is "only fair since we spent last Easter with you"....my reply, a quiet "I know" while thinking to myself "no peeps for you!" (her favorite) Ha!

Well, where ever you are and who ever you are spending this Easter with, I'm wishing you a joy filled day!

UPDATE:
Lisa and Ty stopped by to see us on their way home from his parents tonight...so I did get to see her on Easter! They looked so cute dressed in the same color...made my day! :)

Mom Said......

Last night John and I asked my mom to join us for dinner at Logan's.  While we were there John brought up that I haven't been blogging much.  I told him that all I do is paint stuff now and that I thought everyone was probably tire of hearing about that...

But, my Mom said that she looks forward to seeing what I've been working on and that she thinks everyone else does too.

So I hope she was right because here is a bit of what I got done this week:

We got this hutch at the auction we went to in LaPorte a couple weekends ago. Sorry, but I didn't get before pictures of it.  It was brown. I added the applique at the top and a cute new knob on the door.

Painted these cupboard doors and a picture frame and turned them into mirrors...painted the small shelf to match them. John cut the mirrors for all of them.

And one of my favorites...with a lamp kit, I made this lamp out of a mason jar. I made the twine balls inside the jar and I found the lamp shade on sale at Meijer's for $7... I might keep this!

So I hope my mom was right and that you aren't getting bored with all of this because it is pretty much the only thing I'd have to blog about right now!

Friday Night Haul

John and I just got home from making our Friday night haul to E-Six.  They don't allow you to bring in large items on Saturdays and Sundays because those are the busiest days, so if you want something there for the weekend, you have to get it there by Friday night.

I only had 2 things done and ready to go so we didn't have a lot to take.  I refinished this chair in one of Lisa's favorite designs...Chevron.

After:

I didn't get a before picture of this bookcase, but it was your basic, wobbly brown bookcase.  I painted it blue and then to make it sturdy, I removed the fake cardboard wood off the back and replaced it with my favorite... pallet wood!  I painted the pallet wood in what I call coastal or beachy colors and then nailed it to the back.  It went from a wobbly old boring bookcase to something I think looks unique and fresh.

Now we are home for the night...March Madness you know!

Muddy Boots & Pennies

Spent the weekend going to estate sales and auctions looking for furniture and items to fill E-Six.  Went to a huge farm auction in LaPorte on Sunday...froze our booties off and it was a muddy mess but I went prepared with my rubber ND boots...perfect since it was also St. Patrick's day!
There were a lot of people there and I got over bid on almost everything that I wanted... probably because I'm cheap! :) But we did end up with a couple things.

Saturday evening, John helped me finish up this end table I've been working on...

This is the before picture:

After painting it black with distressed copper accents I started gluing pennies on the top:

All heads up and facing the same directions of course!
I needed John to help me apply the clear resin over them.  We couldn't take pictures of that application because he was pouring and I was spreading and leveling it out. You can't mess around when doing this!

I've been wanting to do this to a table for a while and when we got this table I knew it would be perfect for it.

Oh, and if you were wondering, it took 532 pennies to cover it. Thanks John for sorting through all your change for me!

Not as Young as I Use to Be

Just finished a good sized dresser yesterday and planned on John and I taking it to the booth after he got home from work last night...

We did do that, but not before I came to the big realization that I'm not as young or strong as I use to be!  I work on all this furniture in a storage room in our basement. That means it all has to get carried down there and then back up again!

By the time we lugged that dresser out of the storage room, to the stairs, up the stairs, out the front door and loaded it into John's truck, I was beat!  Granted, this was after a day of working on several projects and making at least 20 trips up and down those stairs, but the realization that I couldn't do this stuff like I use to just seemed to hit me out of left field.

Before this, 52 (my age) was just a number, but now I'm thinking "Is this what 52 means?"  Am I ....dare I say...old??  What happened to 50 being the new 40?
I may need the heating pad, but I'm not ready to start knitting in my rocking chair just yet! I'm going to pull up my big girl panties and go back to believing that I'm 42! :)

Booth Update

Here's an update on "E-Six Flea Market Style"...

The booth was open for less than 2 weeks in February and we made a profit!  I'm not saying that John can quit his job or anything crazy like that, but it went pretty well and March is already looking good so we are happy so far. :)

We just finished this coffee table.  John did some modifications to it which really updated the look and I painted and distressed the lettering.  I think it will look great in someones man cave!

Here are a couple other little things I just got done this week and they are now sitting in the booth...

Here are some pictures of the booth from the past couple weeks...
The green dresser and pink mirror sold!!

I took this picture today.

Well, it's almost midnight. I better go to bed because we are going "Beat Up" furiture shopping tomorrow!

Memories I hold Dear....

How you loved playing for hours and hours with
your toy cars and trucks when you were a little boy.
Making a map of roads for them in the dirt… it was
a true work of art!

Our knock down, drag out fights when we were teens.

Seeing you flying down the road on your 4-wheeler…
it looked like you were experiencing true freedom!

Driving by your house and honking my horn when I
saw you in the garage….you were always in the garage.

And the best memory of all was your hugs…so strong
and tight.  There was no mistaking that you were being
hugged!

On this day, and every day, I'm so very thankful for memories.
