Happy Birthday John

Today was John's 50th birthday. After he got home from work, Lisa came over and we had burgers and hot dogs on the grill. Ty was at a meeting at church, but stopped by after.

If you know John you know he doesn't like a lot of sweets, and won't eat cake at all if it has frosting on it. So I was surprised a while back when he mentioned that I never make spice cake and said he liked spice cake. So, for his birthday I made spice cupcakes for him. (The white isn't frosting, it is powder sugar.)

He actually ate 2 of them! That means they must have been good!

Oh, while outside grilling, we got a visit from the black cat we fed all winter. We haven't seen him in a while. He is still just as friendly but not near as fat!

Humming Bird Watch

This corner of our deck is where I have my herbs growing and also the spot where I'm trying to get a picture of the humming bird that stops by twice a day to check out these flowers. 

I haven't been able to zero in on a time that it stops by in the day, but it comes by in the evening between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.

The Shingles are keeping me from getting much done, so I guess I can sit with the camera and try to get a picture.  

Cute Little Bird

I was sitting outside waiting for the Humming Bird to come by so I could take a picture of it. 

While waiting, I saw this cute bird bringing material to build a nest in one of our bird houses...

I love nature! 

After waiting almost an hour for the Humming Bird, I went inside and put the camera away...and when I went back out to get my drink and phone, guess who showed up!?!  

Shingles and Yellow Knobs

Sorry it has been a while, but you might have heard that I have Shingles. And of course I couldn't have them on my arm or my stomach...I have to get them on my face!  Yep, that's my kind of luck.  I mainly have them around and in my left eye and on the left side of my scalp.  The past 2 mornings I have woke up to find my eye almost swollen shut and I've had terrible headaches and have been in a dizzy fog from the medication they put me on. Been to both my family doctor and an eye doctor and they both told me that I have to get thru the next 4 to 5 weeks with this. Ugh!  Also told me it can last up to 6 months!!!!!  

But before I was stricken with the Shingles, I was able to finish a piece of furniture....

I went to the Elkhart Hobby Lobby to get these knobs. I needed 10 and of course they had 9 (my kind of luck) so I had to drive to the Mishawaka Hobby Lobby to get 1 more.

These colors are supposed to be "in" right now. I guess we'll see!  

Roses are Red, Caterpillar is Dead!

My roses are doing great this year...

I think I'm going to plant a couple more bushes.  I love yellow roses and I lost that bush a couple years ago.

There was a nice surprise waiting for me when I got home from work Saturday...John had done this:

He went and picked them out, cleaned out the flowerbed and planted them all on his own!  Sorry ladies, he's all mine!
